Mission Statement

The mission of the UC Merced Campus Community Garden is to provide opportunities to education, build practical skills, promote sustainability and help fight food insecurity on campus. With seasonal produce informed by the preferences of students, there is always something delicious to harvest. Eating fresh, locally grown produce is not only healthy but helps reduce your carbon footprint! All harvested produce is donated to our on-campus Bobcat Pantry for ALL students to access.

The garden is always looking for volunteers. As a volunteer, you help with weeding, planting, maintaining the watering system, and overall maintenance of the garden. Student volunteers form the backbone of the thriving community of people and plants that make the Campus Garden a resource for everyone on campus. Shifts are on Fridays from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Ranchers Road, between Half Dome and Valley Terraces, at UC Merced.

The garden is managed by the UC Merced Garden Committee and the Department of Sustainability. The garden is funded by the Associated Students of UC Merced, Department of Sustainability and the Basic Needs Department.

If you have any questions or are interested, please contact the Zero Waste Coordinator at UC Merced Sustainability, Allajah Wheatley, by emailing awheatley2@ucmerced.edu or the Department of Sustainability at sustainability@ucmerced.edu.
