The UC Merced Blum Center for Alleviating Poverty and Social Disparities is focused on promoting access to healthy food on campus as well as in vulnerable populations across the region. The 2017 relaunch under the direction of Professor Kurt Schnier and Dr. Karina Diaz-Rios will increase faculty engagement, strengthen research productivity and work toward a sustainable model for Blum moving forward. Current initiatives are focused around three areas: Funding faculty and graduate student seed grants, supporting the campus Global Food Initiative effort and policy outreach to regional health care and education stakeholders.
